Aware Of Your Surroundings | Being Left Behind

Do you know what goes on around you?  Have you ever felt like you were being left behind?

We all know that we are supposed to be aware of what goes on around us mainly for our own safety, but being observant of what goes on through our social events can be just as important when we are trying to grow and keep up.

I have been on a quest lately and I wanted to share with you what I have noticed.  First off no one wants to be left behind.  No one wants to be left out.  We all want to know our place and be part of something.

I don’t watch a lot of movies but when I find one that is inspiring and makes me think, it’s kind of fun to take a break and watch.  Here is a clip from the movie Left Behind.

Now, that you too do not want to be left behind!  I have found some ways for you to become more observant, and to be aware of your surrounding better.

First.    Explain the world to a child.   It’s fun how children ask a lot of questions.   Finding the answer for them to understand can be the trick.  When you start to finally get them to understand, then you know how the world sees it.

“You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose. You’re on your own. And you know what you know. And YOU are the one who’ll decide where to go…” – Dr. Seuss

“We know what we are but know not what we may be.” – Shakespeare“

Fall seven times, stand up eight.” – Japanese Proverb

Second.  Processes in action.  Stop, just stop for a second and look around.   Look at the variety of processes in action around you.

………… Look for the patterns.

………… Look for explanations.

………… Look at why one thing can have a trickle effect on another.

Third.   Don’t be Observationally lazy.   Say what?  Get out of the autopilot mode.   This is where you need to notice the little and big things around you.

“Today, just take time to smell the roses, enjoy those little things about your life, your family, spouse, friends, job. Forget about the thorns -the pains and problems they cause you – and enjoy life”

Observation, evaluation and iteration,  not sudden shifts of perceptions, solve problems and lead us to creation.

Now that you have a little taste in being more observant,

  1. This is so true. I used to feel like I was always missing out on something, but it’s definitely changed as I’ve gotten older. Now, you’re right, I do explain to my kids all the time. I love all the quotes that you used…especially Dr. Seuess
